What's a Midwife?

Certified Professional Midwives (C.P.M.s) care for healthy pregnant women giving birth at home or in a freestanding birth center.

We are independent practitioners providing complete continuity of care for the childbearing year, including prenatal, labor, birth, postpartum, and newborn care.

Jacqueline Zapp-Garcia, C.P.M., is Rushbrook Midwifery’s primary midwife.
She is assisted at births by a second midwife or a midwifery apprentice.
During your pregnancy you will have the opportunity to meet with everyone who will support your birth.

Education and Training:

  • Graduate of Birthingway College of Midwifery, Portland, OR., a MEAC-accredited three-year comprehensive professional midwifery program
  • Fifteen-month clinical apprenticeship at Andaluz Waterbirth Center, training under seven staff licensed and certified professional midwives. Supplemental clinical training with additional community midwives.
  • Evaluation and documentation by the North American Registry of Midwives as a Certified Professional Midwife (C.P.M.) – www.narm.org
  • Licensed by the State of Oregon to practice midwifery.

Choosing a midwife is a personal and intuitive decision. To find the midwife that's right for you, we encourage you to visit the Oregon Midwifery Council site and this directory of Portland and Oregon midwives, and check out everyone else's links, too.
